By the Time You See It, the Shortlist Is Already Done

You know the drill. You check Backstage, Actors Access, the usual spots. You scroll through student films and "no pay, meals provided" listings until your eyes glaze over. And every time something real pops up, 400 people have already submitted.

Meanwhile, there is an entire category of paid, professional productions that most actors do not know to search for.

Vertical drama platforms are producing over 400 series per year. Each series shoots in 7 to 10 days. That means thousands of roles are being cast every single year, and most of them never touch the public boards.

Platforms like ReelShort, DramaBox, ShortMax, MyDrama, and GoodShort are hiring leads, day players, extras, and stunt performers at a pace that traditional casting sites cannot keep up with. ReelShort alone is behind 200+ international productions annually. Fox committed to over 200 titles for MyDrama. New platforms launch every few months.

The casting calls for these productions move through internal channels, production-specific groups, and word of mouth. By the time a listing goes public, the shortlist is basically closed.

That is the gap we fill. Vertical Casting Calls tracks open roles across every major platform and sends them to your inbox the moment they drop. You see them first. You submit first. You get considered first.

Beat the crowd
"
I had never even heard of vertical dramas until I stumbled onto a casting call for a ReelShort series. Submitted my self-tape on a Tuesday, got a callback on Thursday, and was on set the following Monday. The whole thing shot in eight days. I played a supporting villain and they kept asking me back for reshoots because they expanded my role. Since then I have done three more series. The work is steady if you know where to look, and this is the place that tells you where to look.

What You Want to Know

Do I need an agent?

No. Most vertical drama productions accept direct submissions. You do not need representation to be considered. Many casting directors prefer self-tape auditions submitted through email or online portals.

Do I need to be SAG-AFTRA?

Not for the majority of productions. Most vertical dramas are non-union, which makes them accessible to both union and non-union actors. SAG-AFTRA is working on agreements for the vertical space, but right now the doors are open regardless of your union status.

What do I need for a self-tape?

A phone with a decent camera, a clean background, good lighting (a ring light or window works fine), and someone to read with you. Vertical drama self-tapes are usually 1 to 2 minutes. They want to see how you look in a vertical frame and whether you can deliver emotion quickly.

Can I submit from outside LA?

Absolutely. Self-tape auditions are accepted from anywhere. While a lot of production happens in LA, it is expanding to Atlanta, New York, and other markets. Every alert we send includes the filming location.

How is this different from Backstage?

Backstage covers the entire entertainment industry. We focus only on vertical drama. Every listing you get from us is specifically for a vertical series on a real platform. No student films. No unpaid projects. Just paid roles with real distribution.

Is this actually free?

Yes. Sign up, get casting alerts. No membership fee, no paywall, no hidden charges. We are part of the VerticalDramaJobs.com network and our goal is connecting talent with the platforms that need them.
